What color is the wing? I'm looking for a TRD wing right now, but, if yours is already painted red, I might go for that.

As far as the turbos - I'll take them if I end up finding a long block without the intake and exhaust sides and I want to hurry and put them into the car, but, I don't think that's likely.

The wing is not red the price on it is V$200 for an extra V$50 I could paint it for you.

I'm going to need to get some Renaissance Red paint myself for later body parts, and that price isn't too much under what I was looking to spend on the TRD wing, so honestly I unfortunately can't take it. Thank you for the offer, though!

(I'm looking at a replica. My first one was genuine. Still a little annoyed there.)

I think, visually, the R33 is done. The only things that I can imagine doing to it now are new wheels (and maintenance).

The car will be getting some engine goodies eventually, but that will have to wait.

Thanks!

I thought about selling it, but, I seriously doubt that anybody here has the V$120,000 that I'd want for it. :morncoffee:

(Or the patience to deal with the weird registration things that come along with having a Skyline in the US, lol!)

Hahaha agree whit you. Well mine R32 currently cost 1/3 of your R33 and I bet 80% of the community would say its too much for a 20+ year old skyline xD

Yeah, basically!

I mean, "fair" sale price for an R33 in this shape is probably more like V$70,000, but I'd want to recoup the money and labor I spent on it in mods (and the sentimental value).

Most of the car's monetary value comes from it being a genuine Motorex car, although I suspect that gets reduced by the LHD conversion - most people seem to run away from conversions.

It may end up getting some new parts sooner. Mostly want to focus my attention on the Supra for now. ;)

And yeah, genuine bond-released cars are very scarce and hard to come by. Glad I've got mine.

The aesthetic is actually pretty Wangan Midnight / Tokyo Xtreme Racer inspired, to be honest. (Two notable things it's missing are a roll bar and a team sticker. I should get on the sticker thing; and, if the Supra is going to be a street car, I may as well give up my compunctions about putting a half cage in this car.)

I wonder if this car has a very visually similar "twin" in Japan? The closest thing I can think of is the Hot Staff 400R replica.

Also, the car used to look like this at one point, and this was when it seriously started to get the look down, I think:
Funny thing, actually - that's a different set of wheels in those pics, as they were 18"s. The wheels on the car now are 19" and were on the G8 once.

This didn't actually happen.
(Or if it did, hypothetically, it was someone else driving, in "Mexico", and the speedometer was reading too fast, and those traffic cars were ghosts... etc. ;) )

This did, though. I made it back to Nevada and took the GT-R for a "spin" (literally!) on the lot. I set the G-box in the car to RWD mode. The car wouldn't slide too well, but that's a good thing in my book; the car's road manners have been significantly better since the last round of tweaks I made to the suspension.

Halfway through, I hit a cone and decided to check to see if my bumper was cracked. It wasn't. I also took that opportunity to take off the helmet-mounted camera I had been using, and stick the camera onto the hood with a suction cup instead.

...what if I got a GTS25t instead?

This is a hypothetical ECR33 GTS25t build I might have done if I got a GTS instead of a GT-R. (OOC: This is also a replica of my favorite car in Juiced 2.)

On the Horizon: A BNR33 in the USA

A Skyline in the United States that doesn't fall under the 25 year clause? How!?

Well, once upon a time, there was a company called MotoRex. They made business by legally importing R32, R33, and R34 Skylines into the United States. However, it turns out they only legalized the R33, and were importing R32s and R34s as different trims of the R33 to avoid having to legalize the R32 and R34. Add that with stolen cars, Yakuza involvement, and failure to do the mandatory upgrades that the DOT had requested them to do, and that's how we get the entire Skyline fiasco that's been in America for the past decade and a half.

So, how you ask? Well, this is one of the few hundred R33 Skylines in the United States that's not in danger of being seized and crushed.

This R33 came to the US in the early 2000s as a legal import from MotoRex, and was sold to a doctor in Texas. Said doctor used this car as an autocross/track toy for a bit, and didn't do much aside from a single turbo conversion. Makes sense, right? Such a rare car you don't wanna do much to it.

Except, Harrison of Arizona bought this car, and he's had 4 years of his own time to do whatever to it.

As a point of reference, the car came to Harrison silver, and stock aside from a Series 3 lip and a single turbo conversion.

As always, let's start on the outside.

From an instant looking at the rear, the Nismo bumper immediately pops out, and the front end also carries a Nismo bumper. The car stays relatively modest higher up by keeping it's stock taillights and spoiler, but down and to the right the Top Secret sideskirts are poudly displayed in the Nismo Red color the whole car is covered with. Above the wheel arches are the Abflug fender flares, but they, like this car, have been modified extensively. Harrison told me that he had modified the Abflug flares in order to make them "go on cleaner." I say he did a good job!

From this angle, the massive blue calipers and the even bigger vented rotors of the Endless brake system are visible, the system proudly wearing six pistons on all four corners of the car.

On the front end the car proudly displays it's earlier mentioned Nismo front bumper, and also the JUN hood sporting AeroClatch latches. A peer through the windshield reveals a LHD swap, with a rather curious story.

Around late 2014, the previous owner of Harrison's R33 contacted him, telling him about a R33 parts car that had been imported from Canada, and asked if he wanted it. At first, Harrison declined, but he noticed the LHD swap that had been done to the Canadian Skyline. In my opinion, and in his opinion as well, it's one of the cleanest LHD swaps out there. So, Harrison being Harrison, he bought the car and ripped the RHD dash out of his Skyline, and put the installed the LHD one. All in all, this is already probably the most unique Nissan Skyline in the North American continent, and I haven't even gotten to it's drivetrain.

On the outside, there's only two clues about this car's heart under the hood. One of which is the plate reading "R33 900", and the other being the absolutely massive intercooler displayed through the Nismo bumper. However, this Skyline has had a ludicrous amount of work done to it under the hood.

For starters, the engine inside this Skyline is technically not a Rb26 by name. Instead, it's a RB28 due to it's 2817cc of displacement. Also, the block inside this Skyline is an N1 block. Harrison told me he would have preferred to get a Super GT "RRR" block, but he had no idea where to find one, let alone buy it. From the N1 block is the Nismo 87mm over-bore followed by the Brian Crower "RB29" 79.0mm stroker crank and connecting rods with the CP pistons as icing on the cake.

For the head, Harrison sourced an entire JUN auto head, and inside resides HKS cams that are unknown to him, it's most likely that the camshafts have been discontinued as a product. The magical device that takes the power from the crank to the driveshaft is in fact not magical, but it might as well be. An R34 Getrag gearbox with reinforced gearing and a Do-Luck Tarzan G-Box connect the engine to the rest of the powertain, and in theory the gearing could allow the car to reach speeds around 220 MPH, but Harrison's told me he doesn't plan on finding out, and I don't think he'll be a fan of giving me the keys.

All parts considered, on the highest boost and most aggressive tune this thing makes roughly 900 horsepower... to the wheels.

As of now, we know the power, we know the body surrounding the power, but what puts all of these things to the ground?

It's a doozy, I'll tell you that.

This Skyline with it's brilliant Nismo red color and it's monstrous power figures sits on Yokohama Advan Neova tires, which are wrapped around 19 inch Yokohama Advan AVS T5s. The T5s are attached to the set of Endless brakes I mentioned earlier, and those brakes on the rear are attached to an R34 subframe, with the other suspension parts also having been swapped for more modern components. Finally, the car sits on fully adjustable Tein coilovers, and sits at the 'just right' height to be as intimidating as possible. This is possibly the first car to truly inspire fear in me, and I own a Porsche known as the Widowmaker!

Wow. Thank you for the write-up! You definitely did it justice.

As a small detail, the G-Box isn't actually in the transmission - it's actually a custom G-force sensor, which replaces the aging analog sensor that comes in all of the GT-Rs stock, and which has some programming involved in it. Though, the RWD controller isn't part of that - that's custom and linked to the ECU.

I know that much, but I decided to mention the G-Box with the transmission due to it's involvement with the driveline since I couldn't find reason in a paragraph for the electronics on their own.

So I've been busy for quite a while - I've had my projects under wraps, admittedly.

A few months back, I dug up some pictures of the old Supra on a flash drive I forgot I had. Looking at my now wrecked beauty was making my heart ache.

I thought about deleting these pictures for good, to keep me from missing the old car; but I held off on the decision and I'm glad I didn't.

After thinking about it for a long time, I decided the "new" Supra needed some love too.

And, after several months of hard work, I finally think I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel - if you'll pardon the visual pun, what with the car actually coming out of a tunnel and all - on this build.

The wing is obvious - and I acquired that months ago. But you may have noticed in the last pic that this car is sporting an intercooler, and in this pic, it has a "Turbo" badge!

That's right - I'm back in a turbo Supra. The engine is a VVT-i, although I went and traded my shiny new valve covers to someone with scratched up ones and painted those black to get the stock look. (This is a zenki Supra, after all - it wouldn't have had the teal valve covers signifying VVT-i even in Japan.)

And I've gone and built the engine for good measure, since I had a good chunk of change hanging around from months of work and saving.

It's still an automatic, but who cares? I took precautions to make sure it would last a long time - that, and I kept the transmission that came with the new engine, so it should last for a long time.

And it drives very nicely. The suspension is still well in excess of what the car needs (something I had trouble saying about the R33 for a while until I finally got it sorted). Meanwhile, the automatic makes it a nice daily driver.

Haven't had it dynoed yet, but a seat-of-the-pants estimate is that it makes about 400 horsepower. That's on low boost. (That, or the automatic is sucking all the power out! I hope not...) Anyway, I'll keep you all posted as I tune it.
Financials:
I just spent 18 grand on this engine. Guess that's one interpretation of "retail therapy"! Sure worked for me.

It's been a few months, so time for another Supra update.

The car has been a lot of fun as a daily. I've found out it actually feels just about as rowdy as the Skyline, because it's still got the super short rear differential from its origin as a naturally-aspirated model. I miss shifting manually sometimes, but the automatic solidifies its feel as a fun cruiser instead of a wicked precision weapon.

That said, I think the suspension bushings are wearing out; I should service them.

First of all: I finally realized that this Supra was going to be theft-prone if I didn't buy an immobilizer for it. I cheaped out slightly and bought a known-working used one, but hopefully that'll be enough. Installing it was a pain, but it'll be worth it.

The other part of my theft-proofing was that I bought another set of AeroCatch locking latches. It'll be a shame if thieves get through this one too, but at least the latches will give them a hard time trying. Okay, I think that's enough talk of that unpleasantness for now.

I also bought a pair of Recaro SR seats in the car - plain grey and universal, as opposed to the slightly fancier patterned stock units in the '98, but definitely a touch I missed.

Otherwise, mostly all cosmetics this time. I bought a genuine JUN front bumper and the indicators to go with it, and a pair of genuine Bomex sideskirts. A touch not on the old car is a pair of Ganador mirrors. Also differentiating this one from the late, great '98 is the chunky stock zenki steering wheel, which I'm growing to like.

No pictures of the back, because it looks the same as before and it's frankly looking pretty mismatched right about now. I'm going to get some TRD rear spats eventually. (OOC: That'll happen as soon as I can convert them from NFS 2015, in fact.)

(OOC: Also, in SLRR, my garage consists of a spiced-up replica of my primary Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune car (the R33) and a sort-of replica of my primary Initial D Arcade Stage car (the Supra), back when I had money to burn at the arcade played those games. Funny, that.)
