Addi, no matter how good your texture is, it really boils down to what the mesh underneath looks like. A flat mesh with a texture on it will always look worse than a see-through lens backed by a chrome underside. That's why the Forza cars' tail-lights all look so realistic - they use the latter approach.

If you want, I can try to whip up a lens texture for you. Then you can make it transparent and create a backing thing that looks like Mario's third pic (this one).
