Location: Republic of Ireland
Occupation: Part-time studying/working
Hello everyone, my name is Larry and this is my first build thread in this site. I live in Ireland at the moment, and been studying and working at the same time for about 4 years now. I've been saving up money since I got my first job, plus my parents had opened account since my birth which accumulated quite a lot of money during it's 18 years period. With my savings from the job and the money I got from my parents savings account, I managed to get myself this beauty:

It's a S15 Silvia Spec-R imported from Japan in 2002. It was used mainly for time-attack races here in Ireland, and then was probably attempted to be converted to a daily driver, however the project stopped and it was left abandoned. I picked it up when I noticed the ad in one of the car-selling websites that it's being sold for scrap for only 3500 euros.

It has some rust as it was abandoned for a few years, fortunately there's none on the main chassis, and only on the front fenders and passengers doors. It's missing some interior parts as well, and the most important it has no engine x)

My buddy who works in one of the Japanese car-oriented garages is going to come over tommorrow and we're gonna take a closer look at the car and hopefully set a future target ! :)

Oh and I almost forgot here's the list of parts it came with:

GReddy Type-R Front 5000 N/m/s adjustable shock absorbers
GReddy Type-R 7.50" Springs
Brembo 6 Piston Brakes
2x 18" Rims up in front
JDM rear bumper

Hope you guys enjoyed the thread, I'll try my best to keep you guys posted ! :)

I'll wait for my friend to come over and I'll make decision then ;) I don't think I'll find the good old SR here in Ireland so I'm afraid I'll have to import one straight from Japan :/

As my friend came over, we had a long talk over what engine we should install in the future. He offered me the same options as you guys above, I have nothing against good old SR20 and I've seen RB26 in action before as well, but I thought of something else. You reckon I could install the VQ35 they use in 350Z's?

I found a 350 in one of the garages I went to, sitting queitly in the corner. They don't ask that much for the engine as well, you reckon I should get it?

As for other modifications, I got HKS muffler, and stock sideskirts, front and rear bumpers. I also got new front fender and passenger door as the old ones were covered in nothing but rust.

Oh yeah and one more thing, got new wheels for the car as well, so far I've spent around 1200 euros for all the parts and other stuff that was done to the car. Engine aside, I think I want to keep it looking simple for now, maybe with the engine installed I'll go for the JDM look, but we will see :)

That was VR38 indeed  . It's good I wasn't going to pick it up there straight away otherwise I would of spent money for nothing lol. I do intend to get VQ35, but I guess I'll have to look for it somewhere else. Although I'm keen on searching for maybe less HP engines to lower the maintenance costs, after all I'm studying at the moment as well, so it's not like I could just spend 100 euro every day on fuel alone. :confused2:

The engine has been decided :). Gonna be busy for the next few days, but will try my hardest to post when the work's gonna be finished! One more thing, for a couple of days my buddy that's going to help me install the engine lent me out his S14 since I need it to get to colledge and he lives besides his workplace anyway.

It's a standard SR20DE in it, but the light body makes up for it :) I'm really digging it, can't wait for the engine being installed in the S15 xO

I Have a VQ in my S14.. It's Pretty a dope & Sorta Reliable Setup I Got running right now. If you need help I Could Help. Also I Could send a Set of Wiesco High Compression Pistons your way for 150V$ If you end up picking the VQ Up.

As the engine is being installed I've taken out my friends S14 in the track for a few times, I'm really impressed how well the car handles, hopefully mine will be just as fine :)

And here is some interior mods as well :) . Got recaro bucket seat and momo steering wheel, both cost me around 900 V$. Plus got some gauges, but they will be set up as the engine gets in.

To be fair, the engine I decided to install is not an VQ, but I'm still interested in picking the engine up, so if you text me we could negotiate the deal ;)

I've tried out the VQ and it's beyond awesome but to be fair I couldn't find one with small amount of HP and I can't really afford to maintain 410 KW 600HP engine that I've found at this time ;)

I will try to get it but not at the moment, I'm gonna rush the engine installation for the S15 to get it running :) .Anyways, Im not going to go crazy on silvia so I'll just install the SR20 in it. I really want to keep it as a daily and to put all focus on it. If i get VQ it will prob go into some other project ;)

My VQ in the S14 isn't exactly something Great for a Daily When it's pushing 550+....
At Stock it wasn't that bad with just the High Compression pistons I Think it was somewhere around 315-330 on Average.
I was cleaning the Engine bay after buying it back from a dealership.

Yeah, even 300 horses are too much to maintain on a daily here in Ireland. They tax the hell out if ya and then there is insurance companies as well :/ By the way thats an amazing S14 you've got there buddy! :O

The installation is almost complete! :)

As I said It's a simple SR20DE for now, maybe I'll get something different in the future, but looking back how long it took me to install the engine I don't think I could torture myself like this again lol.

The chassis and the main panels got repainted. I got new skirts, rear and front bumpers and rear taillights with the new hood as well. Will try to finish the engine stuff tommorow and then try to put the body panels together as well.

By the way does anyone know any good image upload sites that don't screw up the quality? :D

V$:

Skirts, bumpers, hood: 1000V$
Tail-lights: 450$
Paint: 500V$

Total: 1950V$

Try lowering your FOV by pressing + and - on your numpad.
It will look much better
