 So I spend exactly 75$ for a reconditioned alternator, now the Golf doesn't cut out randomly anymore! Charging up nicely and the lights don't dimmed anymore. Also no problem with starting up either! First time, every time.  I installed the first mod on it, the old rear box was pretty shot. So I changed it with some nice GTI style exhaust back box. I doubt the car sounds any more rorty than standard small exhaust. I think it's actually even less rorty than the old blowing one.  But there is some bad news! Some guy ran into the rear of the car at work, no damage to the sheetmetal. But the bumper mounting is bent.  Also one of the rear hubcap flew away, but I guess it's alright as I'll be replacing the wheels with some alloy soon.
