Thanks for all the comments and kind words :)

Recently I was thinking about acquiring a new ride because I was missing all the drifting scenes and eventually I really wanted one so bad.

Since I had a pretty tight budget and a very hard choice upon picking RWD cars, I came up with something everyone would have thought about - R33 GTS-T.

Image

It wasn't that easy to source a perfectly unmolested (sorta) example within the hometown, which basically explains the side effect of import bans ongoing.

Well but I could find one eventually, not entirely stock at the first glance, but reasonable. A bit of price to pay but the perfect investment to build a decent grass-roots drifter.

I didn't even realize this one still retains its original two-tone paint whereas most of R33s here are at least repainted more than twice.

Image

It's the early 'zenki' version of GTS-T, basically dubbed as 'Series 1' among enthusiasts. It's missing its iconic 5 spoke wheels, which is now a Z32 stockies. Didn't expect that.

All the bulbs work, no problems to the glass, no issues so far.

I picked this for V$ 10000 and I assume it will be a great blank page to start with.

Image

Typical Z32 stockies wrapped in generic Dunlop tires. Basically this thing was driven by either a picky OEM+ nerd or boomer who brought this thing over when he/she retired.

Without it, I cannot justify the condition of this car.

Anyways, it is fairly well-maintained overall, with no visible flaws so far as I mentioned before.

Image

Probably the mileage is the one thing I worry about. It's been over 25 years old since this was released, and I hear some noises but that doesn't really bother me since most of the components will be replaced or refurbished.

It's showing about 100K km to the odometer, not bad for its lifespan! And lack of driver airbags do really tell how old this thing is.

As a small gift, I put my old cup holder to the air vent :)

Image

Unlike the yellow R34, this 'project car' will serve its purpose very well!

Boat jokes aside, that's relatively one pristine example! Can't wait to see what you gonna do with it ;)

The R33 project seems going well I think, so I decided to make more progress.

I think it was a really good timing to cop some goodies from local community this week.

Image

As you can see, it's been significantly lowered by a new sets of TEIN Super Drift Coilovers for V$ 1500.

With the new poly bushings (dry rotted rubbers are the worst) and all the dirts and gunks were cleaned.

Also I got the used set of AVS6s for V$ 400, pretty pricey for its condition, but it was not bent or damaged in any ways.

Looks fairly yellowed out and lots of scuff marks (guessing it was heavily abused by a previous owner) has to be gone.

It came with 80% new BFgoodrich sport tires, I think it'll grip it nicely when I practice drifting with this car.

Image

The rear trunk was jammed so I had to fix it with Mr. Lee and 11K. Having an old car has been always a trickery.

Image

Now the car sits nicely and doesn't "float like a boat" when I try to steer abruptly. Pretty big improvement I guarantee!

Image

Thanks for all the comments! I got some nice stickers when I was in Japan and put it on my rear side windows.

Probably it'll make this car gain more hp by sticking some stuff on the windows ;)

Image

I've had few random drift sessions from small local circuit (which 11K supervised me) for some more drift practices.

I knew how to do it but I still needed to learn how to create clean lines and smooth transitions.

Image

I've owned several S13/S14 chassis before, but the RWD HCR33 gives me much more satisfaction. Not a popular choice for a drift car, but hey it works.

I have to really clean the wheels or even plan to take the whole paint off and repaint it. The gray ones looked pretty nice IMO.

Image

I started to practice and the RB25DET produced more than enough power to slide through the corners. Maybe too much for me!

Image

Even the OEM LSDs didn't help much, I always spun out and making huge mess overall. But still, a perfect time to learn how R33 chassis is!

Image

I might have to do a whole under side renovation to make this a proper drift machine. Stock components are pretty toast by now!

That reminds me of, well, myself, back when I started going sideways. You might remember at first I went with no turbos since I can't drift that well either, but eventually I installed one since I can't chuck it at Tsukuba. But eh, after some more drift sesh you'll eventually get it ;)

Also I'd say sand the wheels and repaint it, it deserves a refreshment! :D

Thanks for all the kind words! I am definitely planning this one being properly done when I fully understand the mechanics of drifting :)

Image

Meanwhile, I was lurking around the local Facebook marketplace, and I came up with something pretty good.

Image

Previous R33 owner was selling his used 20mm Origin Fender Kit for $400, so I called him up and got the parts.

It looks pretty beaten up but with proper sanding and the repaint would look much better.

While the fenders were installed, The Wisefab arms and the front suspension components from Japan were also bought (V$ 2000), delivered and installed.

I borrowed this CST Zero One wheels (17-inch) from Mr. Lee's warehouse. The wheel barely fits in the wheelhouse!

Image

The steering angle has been increased to about 42 degrees, giving more room to create better angles!

I didn't want to cheap out the parts that I use. Pretty hefty investment but it lasts long!

Image

The rear should be also upgraded and refurbished, but I am still waiting for the parts to arrive.

Image

Since I had to check the boost gauge not to blow the engine, I installed the Defi boost gauge (V$ 200) just in case.

I could have installed GT-R gauges to the center console but it's pretty hard to find these days.

Image

Stay tuned for more updates next time!

I was using my BNR34 as a daily, and I really needed something to spice up a little bit, and I decided to put some new tires, wheels, and even brakes to make "safer".

You know cars could go fast, but stopping is whole lot more important.

Image

So I came up with the RAYS LMGT4 and Yokohama AD08, a popular choice among BNR34 owners! The matte black looks always great and lightweight. The R34 stockies will be used as a winter tire.

Thanks to Muza in Omori, I could get these for about V$ 3000!

Image

The wheels and tires fit so perfectly, and Mr. Lee helped balancing the tires and the alignment overall. No need of heavy camber since it's a daily.

Image

Now the car sits like this and it looks rather like a normal Toyota Camry on the street, but in order to go around the bumpy streets of Seoul, this height is inevitable for a daily!

Image

The brake calipers and disks were replaced as well, with StopTech ones, I hope this one shows better brake response than the OEM Brembo ones. Costed about V$ 3000 but it does worth the price!

I thought it was a perfect time to take a spin around the town with the Supra. It's quite a while since I drove this thing!

Cleaned up a little bit of dust and it's all good to go :)

Image

It's pretty nice to drive around with this car with a smell of gasoline and the sound of inline-6, which is quite a harmony.

People here didn't really like the "noise" it makes, so I quickly headed to the local highway to avoid the unwanted attention.

Image

For now I've just capped this car's potential, because it might kill me when I engage the full throttle with the full boost setup.

Also, there aren't many places to run like 300km/h with stable road condition.

Image

The best I could do for now is maintain this car to its greatest condition and preserve it, and drive it like a daily.

There's nothing better than driving a car like a daily!

Image

Speaking of ECR33, I've reconditioned the front fender and bought a new pair of rear widebody fenders (+50mm) for V$ 300 to match the increased front track width.

Also, I've returned the CST wheels to 11K and retrieved my AVS6 which is now clean and new!

Image

The rear is now bulkier and looks just like a GT-R chassis overall. But I am not sure if I keep the bolts on the fenders or just hide it.

Image

Also copped the Kakimoto exhaust for R33, which costed V$ 600. Now it should sound better and gives a bit more of oomph to the car itself.

I occasionally daily drive racecars too but hey, it's not even that bad! Take that Supra out some more and make the whole street go crazy haha. R33 definitely looks beefy with that widebody now, i usually prefer smoother fenders but you might as well keep the bolts on for that drift car vibe.
