Well, i have 17 years old and over 1 year i will take the driver's license.
My problem is that my mother have a honda civic ek9 and i don't like it because it's old and have a ugly interior.
I like the bmw 520d from 2002, but my father said that honda is better than BMW and he said : " if i buy you a bmw and you will have problem with it, do not ask me for money to repair it"
My questions to you is: What car should i choose ?
*sorry for my bad english*

Well i have no idea with cars actually, but i think ek9 isnt so bad,its a small nice car,If you dont like it i think its better to spend some money on it and upgrade it than buy a car :),But in the other hand E39 is a really nice bimmer(and comfortable too) and maybe with some TLC (Tender,Love,Care) it could be a great car too.
But if i were you i would take the EK9 and tune :D.
Ehm...mmm I like Forza! (and BeamNG)

Buy golf. Either mk2 either mk3.. and you will be safe and not very much money has to be spend on parts and servicing.. so..

AVOID anything fiat or bmw for a 1st car and im serious. Maintainance and daily consumables cost alot especially on the bmw.

guys, there is no issue of money.
i like the bmw because it has a very nice interior.
i ask you here because my father said that the bmw is a bad car for begginer and i want to hear some oppinion about the bmw. i knew that the consumption is 5% medium, and 7%-8% city, and i don't think this is much.

@FJ yes, i though of that, but i said that the interior of ek9 not look very well.

To be honest, it's more sensible to get the EK9, there a lot more parts around. Easy to drive. Just a good all rounder.
And it is your first car so yeah......

EK9? Srsly mother with type R? Sure not EK4? :)) My opinion go with beemer only if you like it RWD. And for a first car don't buy 5 series or 7 series. Get third one. And if going for E36 try to get one with stock spoiler(My first car & that spoiler helped to learn parking).

I have no business with people who won't give me a cake!

as much as i like BMW, your father is right.... if it break down it'll cost you much more than the civic to fix... i'd stick to the civic... anyways it's just the 1st car...

if money is not an issue then bmw IMO is a good car to LEARN to drive :) rwd + tail happy will teach you a few things.. but then ek9 is safer bet costs wise and also easier to drive due to being FWD and even then you can overcook it ;)

ek9 for first car is best choice..
like some othether guys said: parts for repair or etc etc are much more expensive for a bimmer
i started in a opel corsa, fun to drive and cheap light car :)
drove it for 1 year and then bought me a bigger/nicer car
i would have taken the ek9 :)
only god can judge me!

after what i've seen alot of people here does when they get their license:

Get a cheap Toyota or Honda, because I think neither of them "break often"..

Here i see 18 year olds driving Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. It makes sense.

But then its the ones that buy bmw with straight 6, half of them have crashed (it rains alot here), and they have problems with the cars too.

There's a reason some people call them "BM-trouble-you" in the US. ;)

I've heard that BMWs are actually not bad in terms of reliability, but parts will be expensive. Seconding the Honda suggestion.
