Deutsche Meisterwerk

We got a whole lot of parts from Germany for the E34! I left the orders to Phonexius because he lived in Germany for a year, i must say that he definitely knew where to look! The M5 front bumper and an aftermarket rear bumper lip that we already got when we were painting the car are finally all installed, after that came all the other parts which you will see in the following photos.

A big change from the outside are these Rondell 0058 18" wheels! I was torn apart between these or the E39 M5 wheels but Phonexius found these for a great price.

With bigger wheels comes lower ride height! We sorted that out with a set of Eibach springs, and Bilstein shock absorbers for better handling.

Now for the most expensive and fun part - a S85 5.0l V10!! Ben bought it from a E60 M5 parts car, he wanted to make this swap ever since we bought this E34, well the 3.5 6 cylinder was alright too but the V10 takes this build to a whole new level.

Another thing he got from that M5 is a trunk badge and exhaust system. I usually don't support putting M badges on non M cars and the like, but this car definitely deserves one! The exhaust was quite tricky to make it fit but one local guy is a pure genius at exhaust fabrication and made it in no time.

Small update for our Mk2 too: It also got a new exhaust system to make the B18 loud and clear, and also new brakes! I was looking for performance brake kits but they're hard to find in 4 lug pattern, there were some but they would cost too much relative to their performance and the total build cost. After some browsing in the classifieds i ended up with a brake kit from a Seat Ibiza Cupra, they fit the Golf perfectly!

Both the Golf and E34 are basically complete now, it was time to go for a ride! The E34 feels great, the new suspension setup has really paid off. Seems funny but now it can easily outrun Ben's cousin's E92! :D We've worked on this project ever since me and Ben got to Bosnia, it's so nice to see it complete. Unfortunately we didn't take the Mk2 on the road cause it wasn't registered but i can tell you it goes fast! Now we'll just have to see how much we can get for it.

This trip has been a really nice experience so far but i had to conclude it a bit early because a huge opportunity popped up in the USA! I'll tell you about that soon. :)

Hohoho glad to see the S85 being fitted! That thing was one of the most savage engine ever produced, with F1-derived tech (and also came when they're a top force in F1 as well!) and huge tuning potential despite being a big engine. The E34 now is a proper grand tourer!

Thanks everyone! The S85 is great indeed, sounds just amazing. Sadly i have to head back to the States because i have to make a few deals there but i guess i had enough time to properly enjoy the all-new E34. :)

It's OK now

Yeah, i'm back from Bosnia a bit early. Fortunately i managed to complete the Golf and E34 with Phonexius, he will take care of them until they get a buyer. He should be coming too sometime in April. Anyway, now i'm in the good old garage in Oklahoma to make some deals, it's the land of opportunity after all! I also missed these 2 little guys, they're one of my favorite builds and that proves it's not all about huge power figures.

I've also thought about making this 86 street legal, but there's a catch: A few days ago i found out this car has no papers whatsoever! Sure, it's more of a race car than anything else but i'd still like to safely take it on the road sometimes, here you can register pretty much anything you want anyway. I'll still need some documents for it so i'll have to find the previous owner to get it sorted out.

I'm glad to see this one again too! :D Haven't changed anything on it for quite a while but i'm really happy with how it sits at the moment. In other news, i took some more parts that i wanted to replace off the Mk2 Golf, i also had a look at the transmission but i still have to make it work.

Now for the main part - before posting the last update i've just seen this article and as soon as i noticed it's talking about Oklahoma i knew i had to take a look! Long story short, there's a whole lot of cars up for grabs on auction which have been seized from a drug dealer, most of them being JDM legends! However that also means they're illegal to drive on the streets. I find it quite strange though, illegal cars usually get crushed but i'm glad the authorities decided not to do so. Regardless, many of them have great potential for a track car!

Here's a list of cars on that auction, you'll probably find them interesting too! It's open until the 1st April.
i hope it's not a prank

April fools, turbo spools

Today i woke up really excited! The bidding for that auction i told you about has closed just a few hours ago. I waited almost until the last moments but many people used the same tactic, the prices were rising insanely quickly!! Despite that, i managed to fight my way to 2 JDM icons! Less than i originally planned but most of them got way out of my price range. The auction was online only but it was still extremely intense as a proper bidding war started just before closing. Well, a few people just cost me a couple of grand but what can i do. When the online part was done it was time to head to Oklahoma City to check out what i'd bought in person, i took the MX5 cause it's really fun and easy to throw around the blocks. Auctions are quite risky because you never know what problems might be hiding underneath, even if i'd carefully checked the photos of the cars i couldn't be 100% sure about them but they looked in good condition, also the dealer the cars were seized from owned a tuning shop, that's a sign they were probably well maintained.

One of the cars i bought is this Supra. It's the most expensive car i've ever bought, beating the R32 GTR by around V$1000. I'm still a bit upset about the price because it was around 20k just yesterday but i still ended up getting it for a fair price. Check out the list of upgrades below and i'm sure you'll agree with me. :)

The mileage is very high for a Supra but i wouldn't say so looking from the outside! Looks like it was rebuilt recently, especially engine wise which is great. I was impressed by the amount of exterior mods too, it really looks ready for the drag strip.

Judging from the front wheels it looks more like a street drag car but i've been told this car is illegal to be titled or registered so i'll try to improve its drag racing performance even more, like i've been trying with the SC300 for a long time.

I was surprised to see totally stock interior! It's very well preserved too. Oh well, it's right hand drive but i've owned quite a few imports so it's no problem for me to switch between driving sides lol.

And here is this car's main attraction which is able to produce 1300 horsepower. Building something like this myself would probably cost me as much as this whole Supra so it's a win in my books!

The second car stood right next to it, and that'll be a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6. The name itself is interesting to hear in America so i got very intrigued to buy it, especially when i found out it's a Tommi Makinen edition!! Now that's a very rare sight, fortunately the price didn't go up too much because many other cars got the bidders' attention, such as a R34 GTR, Acura NSX, another Supra and cars you can see in the background. I was interested in the NSX too, at first it seemed like i could even make a profit with it, but then i found out the mileage was not confirmed, and many bids drove the price too high.

As well as the Supra the Evo looked in great condition, it has a few scratches but that's no problem. They differ a lot in the mileage though, the Evo having only 75000km! The engine bay and interior look super clean too, looks like i hit the jackpot with this one. :D

(sorry for lack of Evo 6 photos, auction link got taken down)
The wallet took a huge hit today but it will pay off one day. Actually i wouldn't have enough if my 350Z hadn't found a buyer back in California, it's been for sale for a while cause it's harder to sell a RHD car, well i guess one JDM fan finally found it. :)

Now that i got a Supra i'll see what i can do with the SC300, they're both powerful drag cars so i'll have to compare them. The Supra is probably way more modified but there might still be some parts i could mix from both cars, who knows. SC300 hasn't changed or seen any action for too long, i guess it's time to change that now!

THAT SUPRA IS INSANE, Sadly it can't be registered, but at least that means that you can mod it without limits!
Also that evo is extremely clean, you got the lottery!
I'm excited!

Thanks guys! Yeah the SC300 will probably stay as a backup car after i improve the Supra, unless someone throws me a good offer for it.

BOOST

not for my wallet though

So here's the Supra i got from that auction, it's been a while but i've been sorting out some more things until now. I can't believe i've just bought it, it took most of the cash but it still costed way less than building this kind of drag car. A lot of it went into the SC300 too but it didn't turn out as well built as this Supra.

While looking quite stock and simple this seems like a pro drag car! It even has a parachute, i thought about installing one on the SC300 earlier but a big brake kit did the trick. Which reminds me of this Supra having stock rear and LS400 front brakes, not the best choice for a 1300HP beast!! Notice the Powerhouse Racing sticker on the rear window, it has pretty much the whole engine from that tuner. I've heard about some insane drag cars running the same parts and engine setups, i know this is the real deal! However there's still room for improvement, if it has the Powerhouse billet block and internals i can push it up to 2000HP. That wasn't mentioned in the auction spec sheet so i'll have to see for myself.

The exhaust system is from Powerhouse Racing too, looks pretty impressive but i think that will get replaced by a fender exhaust or something like that.

And here's the second purchase! Not much to explain here, it's a stock Evolution 6 albeit a special one, a Tommi Makinen edition as i told you in the last update. Now the bumper's missing cause it needs a bit of TLC, there are a few more scratches on the car so there's some more work to do.

Engine bay is like new though! Man, i always admired the mighty 4G63 when seeing Evos on rally events back in Europe, now i even managed to get one. I probably won't change it much as i wanna keep it as original as possible.

Another thing that took me some time was making the AE86 road legal! I managed to get in touch with the previous owner and then we sorted out the papers i needed. I've been using it as a drift car more or less but who doesn't like some street drifting? :))

It doesn't even come close to the other Toyota's power output but the fun factor is the key on these small RWD econoboxes!

It's perfect to chill out and take a break from all these ridiculously powerful demons.

HOLY MOTHER OF BALLS

You're one tough motherfucker, literally all vehicles except the AE86 and CP9A are making INSANE amounts of power. And the Powerhouse Racing on the JZA80 has me feeling it'll be your most powerful vehicle yet. Fuck I wouldn't wanna encounter you on the streets of Japan, I'll be absolutely ANNIHILATED YAP

I'm really keen to see how you build that Evo 6.5 TME though, hopefully not as balls insane as the others, maybe a proper corner carver!!

I'll try! :D Well the parachute takes some stress from the brakes on the drag strip, otherwise they could overheat way too quickly. Thanks mate, the 86 is so fun so i wanted to take it for a spin every now and then. It has a 3S-GE, you've seen the ITBs! Or are you giving me an idea there?

"hopefully" lol. Indeed, it would make a sick track car but do i really wanna turn a genuine TME in one? It will go to a few track days, sure, but probably without too crazy mods haha. And the Supra is already my most powerful car although i hope to make it even more most powerful!!!

Thanks boys!

A cultural exchange

As you may have read in a few other threads, there are currently some special guests in our garage to check out the US car scene. :)

Yes, it's Soju and 11000rpm, the Seoul Tuners from South Korea! They've even shipped their cars here and i'm glad they did so, i've wanted to see that all carbon Supra and SR20 swapped E36 for a long time. The rest of the visitors are coming from Japan - BigSmoke, RocketBunnyS13 and Niatross. In the last moment, Macaron_Moon jumped in too, we were really happy about that! It was also Niatross' birthday when they arrived so we threw a BBQ party first. :D I took him for a ride in Ben's R33 as some kind of a birthday present but driving that monster, i was just as excited as him!! :)) While hooning through the streets of Ardmore Ben brought in the real present which was an E92! Muza was already going crazy from all the fun in the R33, i barely held my laughter thinking about his response when we tell him the E92 is for him. I think everyone else thought so too, we were basically laughing about that all day after the BBQ. :P

The next day we helped Ben to swap a LS7 in the Silverado, Yuan (BigSmoke) was very excited about it, i guess the American life really got him interested haha. After that we fit a Liberty Walk bodykit on Ben's R35. I'm not really a fan of this kind of bodykits, especially because they've become quite mainstream among tuners these days. Still, it ended up looking great together with the airbag suspension. You can read more about what happened in the last few days in Phonexius' and BigSmoke's RP. :)

Meanwhile i also examined the engine bay and suspension on the Supra drag racer. First up there was the massive Garrett GT4788R turbo which i believe is an 88mm one, that means it's good for around 1500HP. Of course there's also a bigger intake manifold, intercooler, injectors etc to match it. There are many other upgrades from Powerhouse Racing as seen on the auction's spec sheet: racing camshafts, valves, exhaust and more. However i still had to find out if it has a billet shortblock from the same tuner too, i was really eager to find out as that part itself costs V$17500. With some help from Soju i took off a few body parts for easier access and after a while i noticed a Powerhouse Racing logo on the engine block, that means it is the part i was looking for! :D It also comes with a 3.2 stroker lightweight crankshaft, aluminium rods and 11.5:1 compression CP pistons, a perfect base for a drag racing build. Well at 1300HP it was pretty much obvious but you never know, after all a stock 2JZ block can handle more than 1000HP too.

On the other hand, Soju's Supra with a bit more street-friendly power output houses a twin turbo setup, more suitable for highway or track driving where you need a quick engine response. The GT4788R on mine is said to be quite a fast spooling turbo but better for drag racing. The stance and suspension setup on this one are very track oriented too, Soju has built it into a proper highway monster!

It must be way lighter than mine with almost all body parts made from carbon fiber! I'll have to consider some weight reduction too if i want to make it a dedicated drag car. The only problem here is the price of these parts, they cost a small fortune!

I've loved track-built Supras since i was a kid, with all the big wings and aero parts they look so mean! Soju's example is just that but he took it to the extreme in terms of weight reduction!!!

Suspension is very well modified too, it has Powerhouse Racing rear upper control arms and traction bars, and Penske coilovers which are set up for drag racing but are good for all kinds of builds.

I really admired 11k's E36 too, it has a bit less of the racecar look as Soju's Supra but the Spoon-ish yellow paintjob makes it pop out. Very unusual choice for a BMW, and a very good look!

It has some carbon fiber parts as well but 11k is keeping this car more streetable for now, he drives this thing regularly and competes in local gymkhana events! I'd rather choose an AWD car for that but E36s are pretty good to throw around as well.

At the moment the majority of the garage is taken by Toyotas, and the 2 drag cars will soon go for some runs on the drag strip with the boys. Both the Supra and SC300 needed some maintenance as they were out of action for some time, especially the Supra because i didn't really know how it was taken care of when i bought it, i was more careful with it when checking the oil and fluids. Both looked rather old and dirty so i replaced them right away, i bought 2 quarts of OEM transmission fluid for the V161, that much was needed to replace it completely. For the oil though, i headed to VP Racing, those guys have the right stuff for racing engines. I bought Pro Grade 5W-30 racing oil for both the Supra and SC300, they have the same engine obviously. :P They also run way better with the right fuel so i bought a 54 gallon drum of C10 race gas, that should be enough for quite a few runs on the strip lol.

When i got the Supra i noticed that Soju installed those Super GT style headlight intakes on his, then i remembered he used to have a right headlight with an air intake and thought it could come in handy for me, i could even make the turbo intake like on the SC300! And so he brought it with his Supra, thanks mate! :)

We installed it right away and it looks even more like a drag beast!

Stay tuned to see this beast (or some more cars) in action! :D

It's really great to see your drag oriented Supra and all the builds! Apparently most of the cars in the HQ were Toyotas and it was awesome to look around :)

Glad that the headlights fit perfectly!

No problem mate, glad we're all having a good time! We can hit the drag strip sometime next week now that both drag cars are set up :)

Thanks man, keep the 2000's style going! I miss that kind of tuning so it's good to still see it on some cars today :)

Just a tiny update for today - we're going to a drift event in Stroud, there will also be a small competition with mostly local grassroots drifters. The track there is quite wide with long turns so i'll participate with the Chevelle. Well the AE86 is a little more drift-oriented but it might be short on power in some turns. I'm fine with that because Niatross wanted to try it out anyway. Yesterday the boys helped with some suspension fixes on the Chevelle, we shortened the steering rack limiter and did some adjustments to the tie rods. It wasn't even so much work and the Chevy gained a few more degrees of steering angle! It's not Wisefab levels of angle but it should be just fine for this drift day. When all that was sorted out we did a mandatory test drive around the block ;)

Plenty of us will participate - Muza in my 86 like i told you, Ben in his new addition, a C63 AMG (!!!), Yuan and Marc also said they're going for a few runs too but i'm not sure what they'll drive, they should tell you about that in their threads anyway. I've entered the competition too because i plan to attend the drift events all season long, i also like to compare my performance to the other drivers there. See you soon! :)

May the 4th be with you

Last saturday was one of the best ones ever! We were at a drift event in Stroud like you already heard from me or the other guys, we also got another visitor that joined us and even managed to get himself a car to drift! It was Franklin which was also coming from Japan but he actually originates from the USA. I guess this was kind of a home coming for him then, despite being in a different state. Anyway, let's move on to what was going on that day: We got to the track at around 8 in the morning, the event was scheduled at 10am but we took our time to set everything up. Yuan brought some tools and spare tires in the Silverado, then we set up the place and prepared the cars. That said, the ones on the track were me with the Chevelle, Muza with my AE86, and Ben with his C63 AMG, AJ and Marc were riding shotgun in some runs. Soju and 11k drove their cars to the venue but not for drifting, i guess their cars are not really made for that. They had a point though, because at every drift event here is also an impromptu car meet with the spectators' rides which can even turn out better than a fully organized one! That Supra and E36 grabbed a lot of attention for sure! :D

Muza and i did some warmup runs to get used to the car, track and everything. The track itself is actually just a huge skidpad with cones (and skid marks) marking the track layout. There are no curbs or any other things to hit so it's a great place to get a hang of drifting, that's also why i didn't worry about Muza driving the 86 haha. I've been driving it more on drift events lately but the corners here are quite wide and long so i thought i'd have some more fun with the Chevelle!

Several cars joined in soon, and there was a large variety of them! Well the majority was S13s and S14s but even those were modified in many different ways. Some were almost stock...

...and others were full blown drift cars, commonly with an LS swap. Speaking of that, there was also the Holley LS Fest in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was keeping an eye on that event too but why would you go all the way to Nevada if you have a local drift day? Still, i hope i can go check it out some day, with all the potential of the LS engine and its aftermarket i'd love to get some knowledge about it. You can definitely find something interesting there, for example a rotary powered Corvette :))

A few moments later Ben took his C63 to the track, at first everyone was so confused!! Sure, there are also a few stock cars but those are usually beaten up 240s or something equivalent. :P However after a few laps they saw that the Merc is a good contender even in stock form. It has the power, and Ben knew how to use it!

One of the more powerful stock cars was also this Camaro which was doing pretty well too! Like the C63 it's a heavy car to throw around but hey, everything can be drifted with enough skill!

I mentioned that Franklin got himself a car too, and he took it to the track pretty much right after buying it! :)) Well it's just a stock Mustang but he still managed to make some nice drifts, and not running over a crowd in the process.

When i stopped to change the Chevelle's tires i took a walk around to check out the cars and participants, i was interested in who's running in the competition too. I also saw this 240SX which was already familiar to me, and probably all the locals too. Its owner helps with organizing these events, i had a chat with him a few days before the event when registering for the competition. I was glad to see him in person too cause he's a pretty cool guy all about grassroots drifting, also named Ben! He lived in Japan for some time so when it comes to drifting he knows what's up! With that experience he wants to connect the American and Japanese car scene, and that's pretty much what i'm doing at the moment! :D Well in my case it's only for a few people but they should tell the tale to their buddies in Japan too. On the other hand Ben is trying to bring together as many people as possible by making drifting videos, check out his channel here!

Although he's really into the Oklahoma's drift scene and goes to all the local events, he's not going for the competition. He said it's not really his thing, and like i said he helps to get the event itself up and running. That doesn't mean he doesn't drift! His 240 is all set up for it with a wider and lower stance, great steering angle and even a LS1 swap. It's mostly stock and makes just enough power for drifting on small tracks, and it probably has more than enough torque to handle this one too! I like that despite being a drift car it keeps a clean look, well the Type X bodykit is quite mainstream but here it fits really well with the wide fenders and wing.

After some more chit chat we prepared for some tandem runs, we changed the rear wheels and we were ready to go!

Tandems were mostly present later in the competition, well i considered this as a practice run. Back in the day Ben has won a few competitions and drifted on many nearby events, it was obvious that he gained plenty of experience!

Then it was finally time for the competition. It was kinda like Formula Drift, lead/chase tandem runs with 3 judges picking the best driver after each round. Well it wasn't really FD in terms of the cars, drifting angle and proximity but it wasn't that far either! There were some very skilled drifters with heavily modified cars and it was quite a challenge to keep up with them!

After a few tandems and shredding a few sets of tires i ended up 9th! I'm actually quite impressed with the results, given that there were surprisingly many competitors. Also the Chevelle might've been too powerful for this track and it was a bit hard to control it sometimes. Then again, the 86 probably wouldn't cut it for this track either, i'll have to take advantage of it at OMC or Mac park though! Or maybe i need something to fill in the huge difference between it and the Chevy, something like this mildly tuned SC300 here. Now that i have a Supra for a drag car it surely tempted me to build my SC300 this way...

Anyway, this was an awesome drift day as always, even if it's just a local thing it never fails to deliver! This year i hope i can be present through the whole season, not only because of the competition which adds a lot of excitement but also because of the cars, the people and the atmosphere! I think that's the biggest difference compared to more professional events, everything is more laid back which is totally my style.

*LINK* I also found some footage of the event, it has some great drone shots!

That day was truly a blast! Even watching from the sidelines made my adrenaline pumping! :))
The guys there were nice too to me, Soju and 11K, we talked about lots of things. They seemed to deeply appreciate Soju and 11K's cars, and lots didn't expect the LS7 inside the Silverado :))

And oh, regards to the second Ben as well! ;)
