Welcome in short story of long journey in car guy's world.

Chapter 1: Hi.

I've just decided to move to car guy's paradise - Valo City. Living in Poland wasn't as bad as people used to say, but it was hard to find good racing tracks (and I don't mind travelling all around the world) and the car culture isn't as gentlemanly as I'd want to see it.

After getting all the moving stuff done I though I need something that I can travel from A to B. I've visited some local dealers and I've found out one fact: you can get trashed out AE86s and S13s that aren't even worth towing to your garage or some brand new blingy-dingy premium cars. Whose prices was way too high as for my budget.

I've met some nice people here. Not all of them are car guys - obviously - but live is not all about cars, right? [...] Mike has recently send me link to mysterious eBay ad. Guy called jdmalex wants to sell his *unique* Skyline GTR. 25 grands. No photos or info. Just price and phone.
Time to make a call. Alex a.k.a. jdmalex still has that R33. Nice. I asked if I can come to see it, and he answered no - he's out of USA right now. Job or something. ANYWAY he sent me photos, that he had to put in his ad.

#potato

Really. It's a GTR? Where? And the engine. I mean I have nothing against LS engines but this guy sends his LS swapped GTS as GTR. C'mon...

Few day later...

Alex calls - he wants to sell me it.
- 20 grands
- No way man, it's not a GTR in any way, except of badge. M3 badge doesn't make your 320d M...
- It does - Alex laughed in special man way... - OK, so how much would you pay for it.
Ricer kid really wants me to buy his car. Maybe he needs money for better potato camera, Doge wannabe.
- Let me think. Does it have all MOT and stuff up-to-date?
- Yeah, I think so [...]
- How's the engine?
- Running. - Now I know this guy has no idea about his car.
- Anyway, I would really like to check it in person.
- I'm coming back home in two days, so I'll keep you in touch...

Few more days later...

Aaaand it's here! It looks promising - almost rust free and such - someone actually has taken care of it.

Epic welcome pic

Thing that I'm probably going to repair first is that rear bumper. It doesn't look like it's crushed, so I might be able to fix it myself. Oh, and that GTR logo. Gotta to remove it asap.

16750V$ for GTS S1 R33 with LS engine and probably genuine GTR wheels. I don't know is it good price, but I'm feeling like I'm going to enjoy this car real quick. I still need to register it, but it's not a big deal...

I've seen this happen alot here in California (and it happend to me in real life too in GA) where they claim to have an authentic "GTR" when its a GTE or gts with questionable legality lol. I am glad this worked out in your favor I am looking forward to this build!

:))

Anyway - I'm planning to keep the LS but not in this car - just for some future project (I don't have anything on mind though). I'm going to:
a) restore it to full stock S1 (which may be hard as missing parts are hard to get)
b) custom build daily racecar (which would involve much more money)
c) rice it (I'd love to have AbFlug kit on it :-X )

Chapter 2: Project starts

Not long since last entry, but I've thought about that R33 a lot. Let me put this in in some points.
  • R33 is my daily driven project car for now (which means I might go full showcar/racecar when I get something to daily)
  • I'm going wide with it. Something GT-R-ish or even wider.
  • I'm going to swap that LS with a) RBsomething or b) 2JZ. I haven't make a choice yet.

Speaking of going wide I already got Duraflex rear widening kit. 1327$ for both, but man, that quality.

I know I shouldn't go for these, as I got much more important things to do first, but it was limited time offer, and they aren't seen on market everyday.

Oh, and I've also done first mod - I've removed that I love JDM sticker. My R33 packs LS engine atm, so that sticker looked stupid...

Chapter 3: It's legal!

The R33 is road-legal now, registered, passed MOT, etc. Bad thing I've found out is that it's running some cheap suspension, which was meant to be more racey. But it's not. It feels like boat - I didn't mention it before, because I'm going to get full custom here anyway. Dat positive front camber though.

I got Rotiform USF wheels from Deniz (Tyretear), fitted them with Dunlop Direzza tires I've found in Mike's garage. I've also used some spacers to make rear ones fit better. If we can speak of fitting it right now... The rear fenders are fitted also, it wasn't as hard as I though it's going to be.

I don't know what should I do next...
I'd love to revert it back to RB-series engine, but the lower spec RBs are underpowered in comparison to my actual LS (which packs 416HP btw), and the higher spec RBs are expensive as f.
But I'd also like to rebuild the suspension - as this one feels more of grandpa-mobile. And with this engine, it might be fun as hell on some track.

I don't know yet. As for now I have what you can see - stage 2 block and head. I plan to achieve something about 600hp with single turbo setup. And besides of this - I got to rebuild suspension. And if I still got money, I'll get some bodykit (it's obvious which one I want)

Heart surgery

So, I've finished fitting the RB27. Yeah, it has Stage 2 JUN crankshaft, rods and pistons. No turbo :( Seller sold it separately, and I don't have enough money to get a new one (and it's damn hard to find any used turbo kit, at least in reasonable price)...

It's packing about 200HP for now, which is a little low for such big displacement engine, especially when 2 litre engines can get same w/o turbo nowadays. But it's not that bad, it revs up to 8000 RPM, and I like higher-revving engines (only 6000 sucked for me :P ) Also, I believe it's a little more economic than LS.

Painted headcover black, because it looks cooler

Anyway, let me find some turbo. Should I go T or TT? I consider both, as the prices are almost same (when we are speaking about something that can suck it up to at least 700HP)

Exterior still looks as bad as it did before. I'm not going to change it until I do more important stuff first. I got an idea what it's going to look, but let me keep it secret ;)

Buff me up

Being busy with life made me abandon my project car a bit. But not much - the turbo is here, Along with other small changes.
And it's amazing. Just the turbo and camshaft setting buffed it up to 705BHP@7750RPM according to dyno we've ran.

But it wasn't that easy to achieve. Actually, I was afraid to drop full 4 bars it was set to, because it is a lot, and I don't want to break the engine. Trial and error me and Mike found out that a little under 2 bars will be good for everyday ricer bashing use. I might even set it lower, because - who needs that much anyway (hate me now). Also we needed piping to fit intercooler, which I couldn't find any over the Internet. So, we went to local shop and ordered custom one :D

Except of turbo (and intake/exhaust manifolds), the camshaft was improved too - made custom ones of JUN rolls (I don't know how they are called) with Tomei pulleys. I heard that it should make whole engine last longer (which I hope they will, I don't mind breaking it, especially when it's my only car I use for my carguyism and daily driving)

I can say I've finished my work on engine. At least until something will break.

Barely fits

Now - suspension. I know what I'm going to do with this, now just to get them.

Time to Scale things up

Old suspension could barely keep up with that much of power. Actually, flatting out felt like boat at heavy wind. Or rather tornado. Not safe for sure.
I though a lot about what way to go with new suspension, and I found out I can't decide.

Anyway, we went to check the suspension once again to check what can stay and what have to go. I'm not much of mechanic, but I can say that it was looking as bad as driving. Not broken, obviously, it passed all the tests and nothing felt off when I was driving around.

That fitment though

Lack of parts kicked in again. If I wanted original BNCR33 parts I'd have to go to Philippines. And I didn't. I went with Japspeed lower arms which looked just right in term of both quality and price. Driftworks kit costs more than twice more, and it is intended for more track oriented use than I'll ever need.

That front fitment though

Note the fitment on front. It's GTR kit and so is wheel offset (at least it looks like it to me, I'm not mechanic). It's a bit awkward to see the wheels stick out so much, but it's unfinished and I plan on going wide with it. So it's cool with me. Tires rub on arches when I'm driving on curbs and such, but I try to not drive on them so much ;)
I could raise it up a bit, but I don't mind asking Mike to do it, since not it sits great and it took a bigger bit of time to make it. Oh, yeah, I got Scale Innovative coilover set which I found out is "easily" adjustable - few bolts, few other metal parts and you are ready to go.

That rear fitment though

I got to say - these coilovers are really awesome. It's really comfortable, even though it's really rigid. I'm really fancy on going on some race track with it. But it'll happen after I do rest of things I keep in my head...

Now it's your chance to choose what kind of bodykit would you like to see on it:

a) GTR replica
b) BN-Sports style
c) Some 2000's fancy rice

Broken promises

Yes, I know many of you wanted to see this as something like GTR. I even had an idea how to do it. But it didn't worked. In fact - I couldn't find anything. Bumpers, fenders... Nothing.

But.

Richard Dreemurr (you may know him from his Road to Glory blog) sent me an interesting contact. Basically, there's a guy who imports parts from Japan. Long story short we found out he has genuine PS Duce bodykit in his store - some guy ordered it, but never bought it.
I thought - why not? There's no such thing as finished project car, and in the end I can buy another one. GTR. It'll surely be easier than finding GTR parts.

As you probably noticed, the bodykit isn't the only thing that changed. There's new hood and grille - the only spares Alex (previous owner) had. I've never tried them on. And I really regret not doing it. It looks so dope (IMO). I don't know why, but it reminds me of the Odyvia converts S13 drivers used to do.

That feeling when complete bodykit imported from Japan is cheaper than rims you got in your country. But it wasn't that much - considering their unicorn-ness and prices of many new aftermarket wheels.

With new bodykit, there's new stance. Old setting didn't fit it at all, obviously, so we got to drop both front (a bit) and rear (a bigger bit). Sits pretty nice, doesn't it?

The interior is still the same though. And I'm not going to change it soon, maybe I'll replace passenger seat with some bucket too to fit the other one, but it's not my priority - I may end up with removing it as well ;)

Cruising with Mike. I love that part of Valo!

# doge : ^yo nig already retextured, awesome :D
thats other thing that map is good for :D

It's also a GPU killer - the ground texture is 10k-ish (it took so much to make it not look so blurred). But it's cool

# Phonexius : Do you plan on buying a daily or you will drive the 33 only untill you crash it?

It's my daily right now, so if I crash it I'll rebuild it ;)

Thanks Nic :D

So, if I told you I'm about to get a car, what do you think would it be?

Note it's already released car and it is not S13 or AE86
