Wypple's Home Garage

In the last few days I wanted to start with this kind of "documentary series" of my future builds, after saying that I continue presenting myself, my name is Lucas Fiorotto (most known by Wypple), i'm 20 years old and I live in Argentina, since I finished high school I started studying as a audio technician, in the process I got a job at a gas station (only helping in easy things), in that way I earned the necessary money to start a project, of course I am a car enthusiast since I was a child, with the job that I mentioned and a big help of my parents now I've got a total of $20,000, I have to mention that I've been saving money for 6 years, otherwise I could never have had that kind of money, the argentinian money value is too low at the moment, that means 20k of greens is too much here.

Now let's introduce my new (and first) ride, i'm gonna work on a Ford 32', I bought it by $2703 (121,037 Argentinian Pesos), in this country is very rare and expensive if it's in good conditions, anyway I had too much luck by finding one with all of the external parts and a engine with the primordial components, the car was owned by an old man who just wanted to sell it, that's why he sold it to me too cheap (in this country that amount is cheap for the quality of the car, maybe you will don't believe me but is the crude reality that we are living).

As you can see, it have rust what is obviously because it was sitting on the side of a house which was receiving a lot of rain water and humidity, but in a general view is a good base for starting a build, I already have some ideas for it and some contacts which will help a lot! motivation is very important too, If the motivation did not exist why would I be doing this?

:))

The most impressive thing for my was seeing that the wheels are in really good conditions! they are from a touring car, also, very popular in modified classic cars, speaking about wheels thingy, the suspension seems too rough, we and my friends discovered it by moving it to the tow truck, it was hard dude!

:(

The engine is a Ford 221 N/A (it comes with the Ford Falcon in South America) which not runs because it's missing the air intake and the carburetor, probably the head gasket is blown but it needs a general rebuild.

At the time I will keep it in my house garage, my parents no have problem with that so it's magnific.

I hope and you have liked this humble presentation, besides following this project of course! Many thanks and see you in the next update.

OH.
MY.
GOD.

I've never expected someone to start with a hot rod (to be fair, a barely running one) but hey this is revolutionary! :D
It's well-written as well, definitely one to watch I should say ;)

Good luck restoring the car my man! :D

That's an interesting choice for a first car! Looks like you'll have a lot of work with rust, hope those parts can be fixed. Be careful though, restoring a car like this can quickly cost you more than you might think... unless you make it a rat rod ;)

@BigSmoke Thanks mate! nice to see that you are interested in this car haha.

@Lagano Yeah, might I will have some problems with the famous rust but we will see how much is when I proceed to dismount the interior, about the orientation, I don't know exactly but there's possibilities to make it a proper "Street Legal" car.

(I forgot to mention that the text redaction might be a little weird in some cases, i'm a native spanish speaker but I started to dominate english since the past few years, so I use google translator for certain sentences.)

With the tools in the hands

After one day owning the Ford I began working on it, first of all, I have to say that the rear bumper was almost fallen, a headlight was missing and the front and rear fenders were too rusty, so they would are hard to fix, so I had the great idea of making them on fiberglass, with the side skirts obviously but that will be done in the future. On the first day of working I dismounted the front end panels, then I was able to pull the engine right off the engine bay, to do that I called a couple friends because I could not do it alone, if there's a good thing there's a bad thing, In the course accidentally I broke the camshaft cover but it's indifferent, I'll try to rebuild the engine by myself but first I need to take it to a rectify, a couple of hours later I undid the electric system that was coming from the interior, the cables were bitten by the rodents, that's a bad thing too, but nevertheless I have to do it all over again.

In the next day I finished dismounting the rear fenders with their respective lights and cables, dismount the windshield and the passenger's window because the other ones were missing, I broke the passenger window (accidentally again), I know it was bad days somewhere, but it seems good knowing that I will replace them. There's three more things that I have done, I dismounted the seat from the interior, then I saw that the seat was cracked in parts that I had not managed to see before, anyway that's fixable, I dismantled the rear bumper and I've decided to take off the grill because it was too ugly for me, so I'll try to modify it and give him a good looking, also I will apply the same thing to the bumper and the front light support, which only have a little bit of rust and dirt.

At the Third day of working I called the tow truck to move the car from my house to the panelist, which I know because some friends have left their cars there in recent years, in the same way, my dad know the man who do the fiberglass work, so I will have a tolerable relationship with both persons.

(These photos are at the panelist's headquarters)

I have to mention that the front end suspension was covered by a nylon, then I realized it was in good conditions in relation with the days it was stopped and the fact that was covered it's very strange, this whole thing means that I can rework it easily, anyway I have to take the car to a alignment session later.

That's all for today's update, after this phase the car will look awesome, that's because it would be wearing a fresh coat of paint! Nobody knows what color will be (including me (?). See you later.

:)

(EDIT: by panelist I refer to the guy who fixes imperfections of the body, rust, paints the car, etc.)

Often Happens

One day, I woke up, made the breakfast and gone to my halftime job, then, around 12 o'clock, I received a message from the bodyshop guy saying:

-Hey man! how it's going? well, maybe after this you will have a heart attack or something like that, the thing is that when I was tearing down the floor pans I found a lot of rust in the bare metal, by the way, it's normal, don't go desperate, I will fix it but give me some time to leave it like his stock form, that's all, see you later! If you have any problem let me know.

(I suck in editing things like that but at least...)

Then I was kinda of knocked down but I know that I'm too aged enough to not act like that, so I don't gave up. About the rust, I was seeming it with anticipation, but it's difficult because it was in the floor, and that is more than 50% of the body, the good thing about this is that allows me to make a reinforced chassis, which is amazing!

I don't remember what day but I was bored enough so I draw a kind of "sketch" of how I want the car to look, non colored, otherwise you'll see the color, and I don't want it hehe.

This drawing helped me to figure out what things will fit nice and which ones not, one big thing was the sideskirts, they give the car like a mafia style and I dont want it to has.

For you maybe this Updates are boring as f**k but it's part of the progress, "will come better things", say the bible. Again, see you the next time!

Like a kid with a new toy

With the Ford in the bodyshop I realized that I would need a car with enough space for carrying things, after a couple hours of searching on many pages and didn't find anything I entered to the Facebook Marketplace and found this nice utility car, I am speaking about a 09' VW Saveiro G4 Trendline, it only has 122372 KM's and a new set of tyres, the previous owner really cared about keeping the car good and straight, in a general view nothing wrong was finded. This boat is powered by a 1.6 AP engine giving 92hp, it have 4 cylinders and a longitudinal displacement but is still being a FWD one, strange or not? If I don't forget to mention anything, let's give you the price, I paid a total of $3549 for it, I don't care if it's too expensive or not, it fulfills its function perfectly and again, it's almost new.

It drives smoothly with and without cargament, will be perfect for carrying engines and big parts, anyway I want to give it a nice looking, you know, put some badass wheels and a little bit of performance under the hood. Definitely this new car can give me a lot of experiences during the process of building cars, in the past few years I never liked small pickup cars like this but I needed a compact one with new technology, I will fell in love with him for sure, I really like the 1st gen too but it's hard to find one ready to drive.

The guy from the bodyshop haven't spoke me anything about the 32' but I have to go anyway and take the engine to a rectify, now I'm happy because I can do anything by myself, work on the car's bed too.

:))

So imagine that before this buy I was moving on by bike, my parents are so proud of this but I have to park it on the house, that means they can use it, before it goes uncomfortable obviously xD.

Big News!

After a couple days without posting any updates (was too busy with school things) there are some 3-point ones! To begin, the main buddy, the now painted Ford 32', Thursday I received a message from the bodyshop guy saying that I could take the car to my house, on Friday I went there and took some hot pics, then I called the tow truck because the saveiro doesn't have the mount for attach a trailer (however I dont have one xD).

As you can see, he made a brilliant job, the color it's exactly what I wanted, the result was the expected after seeing pictures of another hotrods, they mainly have dark colors like this one (at least in those that I saw), I can't regret nothing from this.

Just in case I checked the interior of the doors and the trunk to see if they forgot some rust spots but there's none, they will be my choice for years if nothing goes wrong.

The next step in the project would be the engine, I already took it to the rectify but I have to buy some goodies to get him run hehe, and obviously the suspension will be reworked but that can't be done in this moment, I still think of a customized one.

The another "big news" between notation marks because it's not that important how the previous one was are some modifications to the saveiro, I bought a kind of starter pack including a steering wheel, a set of rims and a exhaust header, obviously I buyed all by separate.

For the full set of rims I done a exchange, the seller gave me the VW Amarok wheels and I paid with the Saveiro rims and $80 on it, keeping the tyres, for the steering wheel I paid $100 and for the header $90, which is prefabricated, not a special order, this last two are completely new. Yesterday I took the time to install them.

Now with the main project going straight forward this new days will be on fire! and for me, the best part of a project is the engine, to get rid of the tow truck I have to buy a trailer, which is not cheap but for my use is totally worth.

PEACE!

About engines and supensions

After some weeks owning the saveiro I wanted to give him more comfort at the driving, searching on Mercado Libre (South American Ebay) I found a full set of shocks and springs by $244, they came in 3 days and for me was too quick, with a lot of anxiety I put them and looked awesome!

Now the car feels so good and I want to drive it more and more, until when the fuel runs out :))

The next thing to do in this babe is improve the brakes, nothing serious anyways.

Also when the Ford's engine came from the rectify I assembled the internals in one afternoon and presented it with the gearbox on the car, one thing I forgot in the past was cutting the two parts of the hood by the middle, fortunately I don't damaged any part of the paint in the process. And another thing, maybe not that important as the previous ones were for you, is that the seat was fixed by one of my favourites upholsterer in the city, now I can drive it (well at this time I can't) with more pleasure!

That's all for this week, the next one will be focused on engines >:)
