HI THERE!

Now that I have your attention, let me introduce myself. I am AJ. Car nut, Subaru/Nissan aficionado, and certified S13 enthusiast. So uhh, although I've read the rules, I'm new to this whole RP World so expect some quirks and gags along the way :)

MY STORY

I had lived in the Philippines for just about my whole life, love the community, cars and everything else. But I knew that someday I had to move to JDM Land. So, I did.

Here are some pics of my family's crib with my car that I entrusted them to take care of (or just stow inside the garage) before I left for Japan.

Yep. What you're looking at is a 1996 Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi, converted to a genuine Lancer Evolution III RS (CE9A). Once you get past the AWD conversion, 4G63T engine swap, rear floor swap and driveshaft tunnel swap, all it had were the basics. K&N Air Filter, Fujitsubo Exhaust, SSR EX-C Neos wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sports, HKS Coilovers, and of course, the blue powdercoated Brembo calipers.

Running shot!! With the license plate on this time. Mounted Evo-style of course, as is the norm. (Peep invisible me)

Alright, like I said, I moved to Japan. Bought a plane ticket, gathered my shit. Sorted things out both in the PH and Japan (e.g. citizenship, livelihood, etc.), and got in touch with some friends.

When I landed in Japan. I took a train from Narita to Mie Prefecture, where I would live. I inserted DAT JDM SIM CARD YO into my smartphone, I gave an old friend a call, and asked for a favor: if he could pick me up at the station and take me to my apartment. He agreed! So I met him at the terminal, found a spot to eat, and stayed at that spot's empty parking lot to catch up on old times.

While we were catching up on old times, I decided to take some shots of his ride.

1989 Honda Civic SiR (EF9). B16B swap. First thing I noticed with his car is that it didn't have any license plates. He said he wants to keep the car concealed, and he doesn't want to reveal the plates that could potentially be traced to his ownership. Hmmm. Needless to say, it's not his daily car, and it's none of my business. But I'm surprised he hasn't gotten in trouble over that yet. Second one, is that it's LHD converted. Pretty rad.

Looking sick with those 89 Accord stockies haha.

Yeah, about 6 months later, with me already settled in, I have a job at a firm as a CPA Lawyer with a fair payrise. Convenient because it's close to where I live. I decided to buy myself a car.

A notable thing that came to mind when I was picking a car was my buddy's EF9. So I thought, let's get something better! So I searched around for a CR-X, found this pretty clean example, albeit the "patina" you will see in the pictures. Gave the owner a call to check it out, see if it's as good as it is in the pictures. He was an easy guy to talk to, happy to address my concerns about the problems of the vehicle. So after that, I then gave my EF9 friend a call to help me check it out, as he knows the ropes when it comes to EF Hondas.

So he picked me up. In his EF9. LOL

Oh yeah, it's got DC2R hubs and brakes now. He also got new wheels. Rotiform SLCs, 15x9J ET36 all around. And Advan Neovas, measuring 245/40/R16 front and rear.

Close up of dem wheelios. Kanjo feels.

Some pics at the agreed meeting place.

Those LCAs though.

And there it was. 1991 Honda CR-X SiR (EF8).

Aside from the misaligned panels, history of a minor accident, and a door that wasn't painted when it was replaced (same with the hood), the car was sound, both structurally and mechanically. Shaken is good 'till next year, and it has clean records except for said accident.

Donut tire because one of the tires on the OEM wheels became flat and the owner didn't bother replacing the tire, so he lost the wheel. It's probably at a tire shop or at a shed somewhere.

SiR. :-X

Interior is pristine. SUPERBLY pristine. 147,896 km traveled mileage at the time.

You probably already know what happened. I haggled with the price, massaged it down to roughly 120,000 JPY (V$ 1,200) from 155,000 JPY (V$ 1,550). Then we shook hands. It was officially mine. I love it so much lol.

Quick early morning pic at the favorite MickeyD's.

Also, zooming in on those misaligned panels that I plan to fix.

And an engine bay photo revealing the B16A SiR-V under the hood. Also, are those aftermarket coilovers!? They're green so they must be Teins!

Those are the updates so far. Thanks for reading! More to come soon.

P.S. I forgot to take pics of my place! Those to come soon as well.

Finances:
V$ 20,000 - V$ 1,200 = V$ 18,800
V$ 18,800 - Big Mac Large Value Meal (V$4.25) = V$ 18,800 LOLOL took that out of my pocket change

Thank you! It seems that the majority are expecting me to Kanjo this thing haha. We'll see about that!

# Renaruto : That thing looks sweet! Tho I have to say a proper Kanjo style wouldnt really work since they've only used Civic hatchbacks and nothing else. But still could kinda work :v

Thanks man! I'm keen on giving it a shot, but first I gotta get the car looking decent first :))

# Soju : This is soo nice :)

Not as nice as your S13s! But thanks a lot! :)

# Adrian1099 : Ayy this looks sick

Thank you! Looking forawrd to it being even better soon haha

Added 39 minutes later:

Hey! Here's a pic of the place I'm staying at. The owner and I have this rent-to-own agreement, kind of like a loan but without the bank.

Also went to the nearby gas station a few streets away from my house to have my oil checked and my plugs changed, man were they overdue! Topped up with Fully Synthetic Castrol Syntec Oil (JPY 6,000, V$ 60 for about 2 liters), and NGK BKR6 Spark Plugs (JPY 800, V$ 8), the engine runs SO much smoother than before. It feels like some of the power has been restored too.

Oh yeah, whenever I drive the car I realize that it steers itself to the left, and that it runs like it's a little bit sideways lol. It's in dire need of an alignment, and that donut tire has got to go.

Oh and by the way! Does anyone know of a decent all around shop close to Tsu in Mie Prefecture? If not it's okay, need to know of some shops that are worth the drive so that I can finally get this build underway. Thanks in advance!

Finances:
V$ 18,800 - V$ 60 (oil) - V$ 8 (spark plugs) - V$ 10 (labor) = V$ 18,722

AND SO IT BEGINS!

Rented my buddy Al's garage in Matsusaka for just about 2 weeks. He had to move his EF9 outside in order to accommodate me (Yes that's his name. Oops, not supposed to disclose who he is :O ) We settled on a friend's fee of JPY 6,000 (V$ 60), just to cover the electricity bills.

First order of business? MORE LOW! Since early on I found out that the car was sitting on Tein Street Basis Coilovers, I adjusted the height so that it would close the wheel gap and eliminate the rake from front-to-rear.

Before:

During adjustment:

After (Also moved it forward and back to let the suspension settle):

NEXT MOD!

Making it look decent and presentable, and that would mean:

Paint! Took off the parts that needed to be painted, removed the attached accessories and moldings, and masked off everything else that was in the way. Bought the materials at Autobacs. Bought the Milano Red (R-81-3-A) paint at some reputable shop in Tsu. Paint + materials were about JPY 20,000 (V$ 200) altogether.

Oh, and if you haven't noticed yet, I bought Al's old 89 Accord stockies with tires, for a reasonable JPY 24,000 (V$ 240), they were originally JPY 30,000 but I told him I was gonna rent his garage for JPY 6,000 so. Now the car doesn't adversely steer itself to the left lol, also adds uniformity to the car like the paint. If anyone needs/wants 3 EF8 CR-X SiR stockies let me know! Keeping the donut tire/steely as a spare.

Waited about 1 week to get everything sorted out with the paint. Panels were correctly re-aligned too. When I went to pick up the car a few days after we finished it, I was stunned. It was different. The mods altered and erased the car's "hoopty" look. I LOVED it even more than when I first bought it.

Brought the car home, thanking Al for his help as he was also the one who painted the parts! Got it aligned at a tire shop, gave it a full wash, buffed it and waxed it. Then the following day I took the car out to the city and took a couple of photos on the streets.

What do you guys think? In my opinion it no longer looks like a JPY 120,000 car hahaha. Now I won't be embarrassed to drive it around and take it to the track soon.

Next mods? Intake, exhaust, proper wheels and tires. Then I hit the track.

Finances:
V$ 18,722 - V$ 60 (shop and labor) - V$ 240 (wheels) - V$ 200 (paint and materials) = V$ 18,222

TRACK DAY? LET'S GO!

Hey fam! It's been a while since I've updated my progress on the car, been busy these past weeks hehe.

So yeah, long story short I drove the C-REX (Yes that is what I have affectionately named it hahaha) to Suzuka Circuit in Suzuka from Tsu. It was a cool 24 minute drive, apart from the anxiety of the car breaking down on me, but thankfully, it didn't do that at all.

In fact, it held up well and took a beating! PLUS, I got to drive the car home with NO problems whatsoever! I know, it's a miracle HAHAHAHA

When I got there, I paid the registrar 3,900 yen (V$39) to rent the track for half a day, got briefed with the rules and guidelines, and prepared my driving gear.

Drove the car out on the track for testing. Did 2 slow laps around to familiarize myself with the grade changes and corners.

Then, I WENT FOR IT.

I started pushing the car harder and harder, gradually building the engine up to that glorious peak of 160hp, coupled with an 8,000 RPM orchestra. VTAKK yo!

But after about 5 laps of pushing the car I realized what needed to be done to the suspension, had to re-align for toe (toe-in rears), and adjust the suspension dampening, with softness biased to the rears in relation to the slightly stiffened fronts to avoid the bit of fishtailing I've been getting at the corner entry.

But I was like nah, a few more laps should get me used to it.

SO I did just that. And sooner or later, this started happening.

Inner tire smoke caused by a combination of understeer and compensation which led me to dip said inner tires into the grass a bit!

Tried to get my act together and push it even harder (which probably wasn't the best of ideas). That led me to this.

HAHAHAHAHA :)) Press F.

So I finally visited the pits and did the respective adjustments. Voila! Instant improvement. Not the best, but I sure felt the difference.

Much better traction and feedback from the car throughout the rest of the day. After a couple more laps and minutes, I decided to take a rest and cool both myself and the car down.

Got to let the car rest under the cool shade of the pits haha, here's a photo.

Then right before I left, I managed to snag some still pictures on the track while there were no people.

And that marks the end of my track day session with C-REX, as well as the beginning of my 30 minute trip back home, starting with this mandatory gas station shot B)

Oh yeah! P.S. Got to sell the CR-X stockies to a local for 10000 yen (V$100). Also got to close a family court case and got paid 450,000 yen (V$4500)

Finances:
V$13,731.12 - V$39 - V$2.12(Premium milk tea bought at a store) + V$100 + V$415(Paycheck) + V$415(Paycheck) + V$4500 = V$19,120

Lucky you managed to catch it in the grass. That barrier seems pretty close from that angle!
Plus I really do like your C-Rex! My favourite of all the Hondas out here!
