New wheels! Tein Sideway Master coils and springs sitting on 17x10 Model 5s. Looks odd with the stock body but that'll be fixed soon.

Also did a sleepy eye conversion which really works wonders for the whole front end.

Need to go out and do some testing and then maybe start thinking about a turbo kit.

(V$20,000-5,000+375= V$15,375)

Finally got the car back from paint!

Midnight purple, same as before. It's not the greatest quality job, but it'll do considering it's only a placeholder until I decide on the final colour.

Slapped the plate back on and took it out for a drive.

It's been in the back of my mind for a while now that as much as I love the 180, it's not exactly a viable everyday driver anymore. The bucket seats are too firm and uncomfortable, the power delivery is too rough and the ride is just horrible, and as I was driving around town I realized I really need a new daily.

Something reliable and practical, and yet fun to drive. Enter the E36. (okay, maybe the reliable part isn't so important)

1993 BMW 320i

25 years ago this thing was the compact luxury car. BMW might not still hold that crown, but this car is more than proof enough that they once dominated this market.

The 150 horsepower produced by the 6 cylinder M50 might not sound like much, but I assure you this car will not stay stock for very long. It's done just over 120,000 kms, and in places it definitely shows it age. The worst offender is the paint, once deep red but now looking more like salmon pink after a few decades in the sun. However, on the other side of the spectrum, the interior is absolutely MINT, and even comes with some M3 goodies like seats and a shift knob. With some wheels, paint and a few inches off the ride height, this will make a perfect daily. (and maybe just a little more power)

The problem now was that I had two cars but space to work on only one, and so I rented a garage just down the street from my house. I fear that it won't be long before I blow all my cash on shiny new cars to fill up all the empty space in there, though.

moving day

really not a fan of the whole 'monster truck' thing the 36 has got going on

27200-2800= V$24,400

Just as I thought, it wasn't long before I started to throw money at my 'sensible daily'.

The first upgrade was some Koni shocks and springs, which give the car the subtle decrease in height it so desperately needed. In addition, there's a Wilwood big brake kit with 300mm rotors in the front and 278mm in the back, meaning that now maybe the car will actually stop when you hit the middle pedal.

Of course the new brakes wouldn't clear the stock wheels, but I wasn't planning on keeping those anyway. There's new 17x9 Blitz Type 03s all around wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

So that's it, right? New wheels, brakes, and suspension is already too much to be putting into this car? Not quite. I had to do what every E36 owner does and swap out the amber turn signals for clear ones. While I was at it, I sprayed the kidney grilles black and installed the front lip off a Renault Laguna of all things.

The stock steering wheel was worn out and looked like it came out of a '94 Camry so I picked up this cheap E30-style M sport replica wheel online, which really does wonders for the whole interior.

All that was left then was to take the car for a drive! I absolutely love how this thing drives and looks (except for that horrid faded paint), but the engine makes a lot less than what it did when it was new. The power delivery is sluggish and horrible, and when you finally do get some power there isn't much. Definitely needs addressing, but I have a plan in mind ;)

Speaking of good looking but underpowered, don't think the 180 isn't getting enough love. Took it out to the track the other evening and she's just as fun to drive as the first time.

I've been waiting on this delivery for weeks and it finally arrived! New D-Max type 3 roof spoiler and an off-brand lip spoiler whose origins I'm not sure of. They really tie togther the whole rear end of the car, just need to get them painted.

Big big things coming, stay tuned!

# Soju : MMM a nice find! And the 180SX looking really good in that color :D

Agreed, midnight purple is undoubtedly one of the best colours ever to be put on a car.

# BigSmoke : Weeeee boiii I love that Midnight Purple colour! :D

Also congrats on that Bimmer, I'm sure it'll be a bulletproof daily :D
And of course you could add some more power (and new wheels!) to it ;)

Wheels done, now for power... hmmm

# Alex876 : Nice rps13, i hope mine looks as good!

Your car is fuckin amazing, makes me want to stick a Honda engine in mine too lmao

# Niatross : great looking cars man!
And lmao to think the E36's really were a symbol of luxury and wealth back in the day

And of course not, they're great cars.
