Hi, my name is Dan, and I'm a mechanic that lives in Northampton. I saved for a while for this, and I finally bought it. *LINK*

Everything was in good condition, except for the mufflers. I'll be getting lowering springs soon, so check back in a while to see how the build is coming along.

Looks good ! What are your plans for it ? 2JZ engine swap and make it fully drift-spec car ? Or is it going to be a daily ?

Well, I've placed my first order! I spent V$3500 on Rays Nismo LM GT1+Tyres from Art of Wheels, it will take a while to arrive but I can't wait to see how it looks on my Nissan.
I'm waiting for a quote back on a few parts, including mufflers and some new suspension parts.

Just some pictures I took from an old airfield near me. (oh, and me killing some tires outside of the garage I work at :)

thanks! I can't wait to get this car set up right. Once the car's modifications are stable, maybe we'll meet up. What do you drive?

Well it's my daily at the moment, and it will probaby end as a street legal, still kinda practical drift car. I'll probably stick with the stock engine, but IF I do swap it out, it probably won't be a 2JZ. I'll go for something a little different, maybe an old small block V8.

Well, I've been digging around... I found this... *LINK*

I'm totally in love with it. I payed the seller V$2300, with the extra going to transport to the port. Bringing it to the uk cost me V$2500, but I HAD to get this.

The Nova will arrive next week, and will be stripped down as soon as possible.

I used someleftover piping from an exhaust job in the shop, and managed to weld a 'muffler' onto the fairlady. It's not great, but it will do for now.

I've had a look at the 4.6 V8, everything seems pretty standard for a used engine. I've got a basket of parts I need to get, but that'll be a while before I could affort that.

The shop I work at wants to r&d some new engine parts,so we'll dump it in the Nova with some junk suspension. It'll gave me a chance to drive it, finally.

So. It's been a while.
Long story short, slrr broke for me on Friday. I've spent hours trying to fix it, but I gave up, and started gain. Now, back to the rp.

So, the nova arrived. I attempted to fix up the rust and save some if the original panels but it was unsuccessful and the panels went to the scrap. Sad, really, but I tried to save what I can. The seats could be refurbished, though, so at least a little more of the original car survives the restomod.

Once it was stripped and cleaned, some junk suspension was thrown on by the shop and a heavily modified 3uz-fe was placed in the shell to R&D some new custom parts the shop I work at. I got the chance to drive the Nova for the first time, albeit not for too long as the 3uz-fe modifications caused massive overheating issues.

After the test, the Nova was transported back to the shop and the engine was taken out. Once it eventually cooled down, of course.

The following day, I began work putting the 4.6 in the Nova. I had already had the missing parts ordered (intake, alternator, head covers, etc), but I spent a while cleaning and polishing all the 4.6 parts. It was surprising easy to swap in, apart from having to cut into the chassis to fit the larger transmission than this car came with stock. It turned over, could shift smoothly and felt as good as new.

I then began ordering all the parts I needed for this nova. I can't find my receipt, but the bucket of parts I ordered cost around V$4,900. New suspension, brakes, bodywork, glass, wheel, rims, tires and lights.

I also picked up a RX7 Savanna for V$1900. It looked pretty clean when I purchased it, apart from the engine. The owner said that he was having a bunch of trouble with it, but he didn't have the knowledge of rotary engines to do any work on it. I also have no knowledge of rotary engines, but I had other plans for this car... *LINK*

Once my Nova parts arrived, I spent a whole day working on the car. It was surprisingly easy to work on, and the metalwork on the replacement body panels were amazing. Also, the AR Torq thrust wheels I had ordered looked STUNNING.

As I turned up to the dock to pick up my RX7, I noticed another black savanna that had been shipped on the same boat. It was nice seeing another, but it wasn't looking anywhere near as good a condition as the one I ordered. I spoke to one of the people at the dock who would be the one to hand me over the keys and documentation, and he gave me some terrible news...
That wrecked black savanna I saw in the way in? That was my black savanna. It was badly managed in transport.

Fortunately, the company's insurance payed me for the damages, more than I was expecting. I also sent an angry email to customer service, and now I also have my next shipping through them for free. Time for some overnight parts from Japan, maybe?

I stripped the Savanna, and scrapped all the damaged parts, they couldn't be saved. I used the insurance money to repair the car, and managed to do it cheaply, giving me a tiny bit more spending money.

Obviously, I still intended to swap the engine in the RX7, but I was struggling. Although I could afford 2JZs and RB26s and obscure American V8s, nothing I found really matched what I wanted this savanna to be. I could have picked some great engines to get ridiculous power with, but it didn't feel right. But then, I stumbled across a 4A-GE. Just seeing this sent my imagination running, picturing the Savanna tear down a country road accompanied by a choir of 4 deeply burbling cylinders. I had to get it.

Actually installing it was a pain. Firstly, taking out the damaged rotary resulted in a large gash on my left hand and a quick Pit stop in the A&E. I had some help from a couple of mates that work along side me in the shop with the install, they ended up doing most of the work because of my hand.

Also, the Rays Nismo LM GT1s I purchased from art of wheels (thanks skip! ) arrived. Although they were intended for the Fairlady, they looked so good on the RX7.

And so, onto the work I competed today.

The cowl tag on the nova actually reveals that the car was painted 'le man's blue' from the factory, so I fully intend to repaint it it's original colour. I payed for the respray for the nova, and also for the Savanna to be sprayed crimson red. I payed for the paints only, as the local college allows the student to spray cars as part of their training, so I avoided some pretty hefty labour fees. Obviously it was a bit of a risk taking these too some inexperienced painters, but now that both are done, I can honestly say that they both look great, and I can't wait to continue this RP.

How did I afford all of this? The fairlady is gone. Sold for V$6500, so I lost a fair bit of money on it but I had to sell it fast to get all this new stuff on quickly. Maybe I wouldn't have sold it so quickly if I knew how much love it was getting on here, but I promise that another fairlady will be mine one day...

OK, now for the math.
Bank: 225
+6,500 Fairlady sold
-≈4900 Nova parts
-1900 savanna
-1800 4A-GE
+900 insurance payout
+1000 scrap parts
+415 income
-850 savanna repairs
+600 Sold the 340 block on eBay for a lower price.
-750 paint

Remaining Cash - V$1190

^ (You got that right, a good story makes a good roleplay and i don't even mind the bad pics because of that! :P (though you could still make them better by zooming in a bit))

Like you said, your RX7 doesn't have crazy power with a 4A but it should be fun to drive! Nice progress on the Nova too but its tires look a bit too big.

My first grassroots drift experience

Woke up early this morning, so I could head to the post office at opening time to pick up a package. I ordered a drone, so I could take some better rolling shots of cars. Here is a test picture I took of my house this morning.

The drift event was chaos. From what I was told when I arrived, most of the drivers only did the first day of the event, so attendance was lower than I was expecting.

This turquoise ZN6 was powered by a straight 6, of what kind I do not know. He hit the track almost as soon as I took the static shot. The guy was a decent driver, but his setup was so poor. It was really stiff, so it struggled to transition. Unfortunately, he caught some freak grip around a 60mph ish corner and headed straight into the bank off track. He gotlucky he didn't flip it, because he had no roll cage.

These 2 BMWs both ran similar setups, low pressure turbo straight 5s making around 400hp. They were both really talented drivers, especially the driver of the white 3 series. We all spoke to the driver and we pursuaded him to up the pressure, he said it could make about 700 at the wheel. He actually recorded the fastest entry of the day, hitting 110 before the first corner. That lap was super impressive, but he blew something in the motor so we all pushed him into the pits and had a good laugh.

So this S15 was impressive. From what people were telling me, this owner was in a bone stock 5 series yesterday, and was frustrated that other people were faster than him in slower cars. So he rocked up today in Formula Drift ready, 1000+bhp, Silva. Put it on the wall after a lap or 2, left angry. Professional level car driven by an awful driver, only one thing was going to happen.

Now this R32 GTS-T was driven by a guy named Mike, who I spent most of the day hanging out with. It was an interesting story about how he got the car. He when on a trip to Japan about 3 years ago, and spotted this after getting lost on his way to suzuka. He took a closer look at the Skyline and took a shining to it. It was bone stock, apart from some custom made front suspension arms from Kids Heart. The owner came out and spoke to him, and he spoke a little English. Apparently he was going to drive in D1SL, with the support of a smaller garage in town. The shop went into bankruptcy as they were working on the car, and it had sat stationary since 2007. He bought it and never told me for how much, but he couldn't aford to import it to the UK. He dumped it somewhere in Yokohamma, vowing on day to return and take it with him. He's had it in the UK for a year now, and he plans on making it a fully competitive car.

The Altezza and the R33 were also brilliant to watch. They were driven so hard, chucking it aggressively into every corner.

Mike lent me some spare tires and helped me take off my, bumpers and wings. I was nervous to get out their with te a RX7, but I did OK. I didn't crash, which I was a little worried about.

Mike told me about a section in the docks he would break into and drift. I went with him, and we both ran the spot for a few hours. I had a blast, and I'll definitely drift their again.
